April 8, 2016 | Executions in Damascus

On this day in 2016, ISIS killed 175 cement workers from among a group of 300 individuals they had kidnapped northeast of Damascus.

Yes terrorism is heinous but some attacks are just disgusting and disproportionate in nature.

When it comes to terrorism it would be hard to out-bottom Islamic State (ISIS). During its rule of violence it engaged in all kinds of atrocities that beggar disbelief – and that is saying a lot for a terrorist group!

Among the more ‘inhuman’ crimes which we know ISIS was behind (how do we know? Because they posted them, with all the gory details to impress/frighten/intimidate us, that’s why), there were drownings, beheadings, pitching gays off buildings, rapes… the list goes on and on. It is almost as if these animals were engaged in ‘oneupmanship’ (‘onedownmanship’?) in a horrific race to the bottom.

Then there are simply some crimes that make no sense – at least insofar as I understand the word ‘sense’. On this day in 2016 ISIS killed 175 cement workers from among a group of 300 individuals they had kidnapped northeast of Damascus. The men had been taken after the terrorists launched an attack against Syrian government forces.

‘Heroes’ of the Caliphate – whatever (Photo: ISIS media)

Let’s unpack this, shall we.

ISIS attacks a real army and while I don’t know how ‘successful’ this strike was it sure appears they were unsuccessful in killing 175 soldiers who could defend themselves with their guns. In other words, these ‘heroes’ opted to capture….cement workers. What a brave act by a bunch of holy warriors – NOT!

Let’s be honest. Terrorists can on occasion be heroic in that they do go up against ‘enemies’ that can fight back. This takes guts in books. Cement workers, though? Seriously? How the hell is this an act of valour?

In the end most terrorists are neither role models, nor superheroes, nor ‘soldiers of the Caliphate’. They are pathetic losers who pick on the little guy. The sooner we kill them the better.
