KIBBUTZ GA’LED, ISRAEL – Some attacks are carried out with the simplest of equipment.
Terrorism seems to be dominated these days by a whole host of sophisticated equipment. Magnetic improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Drones. One-person submarines. Nukes – no, thankfully no nukes yet!
Then again, some terrorists resort to very simple weapons. Take Rehab Dughmosh. The Islamic State (ISIS) wannabe went into a Canadian Tire (a nationwide hardware chain) in 2017 and grabbed a golf club off a shelf in an effort to kill employees. Not very sophisticated, was it?
Today’s featured attack is very much in the KISS mode: Keep It Simple Stupid.
On this day in 1992
Four members of the terrorist group Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) attacked an Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) training camp in northern Israel and killed three recruits with knives, axes and a pitchfork. According to authorities, the four became devout Moslems who believed it was their duty to fight the “infidels,” particularly Jews and Jewish soldiers.
Before they attacked the recruit training center, a plan to kill a hitchhiking IDF soldier was thwarted, as was the planned murder of an Israeli security guard at Katzir, a Jewish village near Umm el-Fahm.
Indictment
States can establish strong regulations against certain weapons like guns: pitchforks not so much. All of this goes to show that where there is a terrorist will there is a terrorist way.
