LUUQ, SOMALIA – Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink – especially if terrorists target supplies.
Is there anything more important to humans than water? They say you can go for as long as two months (!) without food, but only three days without water. Wow. Water is THAT important I see!
I happen to live in Canada, home to the world’s largest fresh water availability after Brazil and Russia (and here I always was told we were #1!). This means we never have to worry about where to get our live-giving elixir.
Many other areas are of course water-stressed, meaning simply they do not possess enough H2O to enable optimal human functioning. Some places opt for desalination while others bring water in tankers to needy communities. Sometimes those trucks are targeted by terrorists.
On this day in 2012
A water tanker transporting its load hit a landmine probably laid by Al Shabaab terrorists near Luuq in Somalia. Three people were killed in the attack and an unknown number wounded. The truck was to supply members of the Transitional Federal Government’s army.
Al Shabaab has changed tactics and started to cut off liberated cities from their water source so that they can demonstrate some kind of power and presence.

You would think there would be certain no-go areas that would be mutually agreed on by all when it comes to terrorism. Then again you would not be thinking like a terrorist then.
