May 3, 2002: Multiple pipe bombs planted in midwestern United States

Beginning on this day in 2002 a 21-year old college student planted a series of pipe bombs in rural mailboxes across five midwestern US states.

WESTERN UNITED STATES – Some terrorists cannot make up their minds about what they are angry about.

Terrorists have a lot to be angry about. Occupation. Social injustice. Genocide. The list goes on and on.

Some groups outline very specifically what wrongs they are seeking to right. Take the Irish Republican Army (IRA). Their grievances were mostly specific. They wanted a united Ireland and did not take too kindly to the continued presence of English influence on the Emerald Isle in the form of Northern Ireland. Hence the ‘Troubles’. We may see the use of indiscriminate violence as evil but at least we knew what they were fighting for.

What then when a terrorist seems to have a dog’s breakfast of issues?

What do we want? A united Ireland! When do we want it? In 1690! (Photo: Public Domain)

Enter Luke John Helder., aged 21 and hailing from Pine Island, Minnesota

Beginning on this day in 2002

He planted a series of pipe bombs in rural mailboxes across five midwestern US states. Six people were injured in all from the 18 homemade explosives.

As for a motive, well pick one:

  • the government is not running things properly;
  • conformists conforming to the will of the overlord media who rules over the land with an iron fist;
  • “I’m dismissing a few individuals from reality to change you all for the better.”
  • astral projection, out-of-body experiences and death as another stage of life

I was just very shocked and surprised. He was a great friend.

Helder apparently also loved the Seattle grunge group Nirvana and admired Kurt Cobain, the band’s lead singer, who committed suicide with a shotgun in 1994. He is fortunate the FBI did not fulfill his death wish when they arrested him on May 8 and that no one died from his devices.

Besides, was Nirvana really THAT good?

The ABCD CC, DAIC, and Consortium Workgroups have established standardized and harmonized assessments of neurocognition, physical and mental health, social and emotional functions, and culture and environment. They also have established multimodal structural and functional brain imaging and bioassays. Brain imaging and biospecimen collection for genetic and epigenetic analyses will be done every other year.
In my opinion, a male 21 year old college student would be in the late stage of ‘adolescent brain’ cognitive development.
