Not many people seem to pay a lot of attention to Nigeria in West Africa, although that country is the 6th largest by population in the world and a major oil producer to boot.  It is also home to one of the longest running jihadi campaigns on the planet and has produced two major violent extremist groups: Boko Haram (BH) and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

Jacob Zenn is an adjunct associate professor on African Armed Movements and Violent Non-State Actors in World Politics at the Georgetown University Security Studies Program and and editor and fellow on African and Eurasian Affairs for The Jamestown Foundation in Washington DC. His latest book is Unmasking Boko Haram: Exploring Global Jihad in Nigeria which was published in April 2020 by Lynne Rienner.
