We seem to be going through a transition in the world of terrorism where some actors select a potpourri of causes to justify violence.

Episode 236 – the era of ‘cafeteria’ terrorism?

A recent ‘attack’ on Edmonton City Hall is raising all kinds of questions about how to describe bizarre acts of violence. The alleged assailant recorded a video ‘manifesto’ in which he lamented ‘wokeism’, immigration, inflation, housing, the war in Gaza among other grievances. If this was an act of terrorism what kind? Islamist? Far-right? Far left? All of the above? None of the above? This seems to be tied to what may be a new trend of ‘do it yourself’ or ‘cafeteria’ terrorism. A few thoughts on what all this means.
