September 19, 2002: Suicide bomber detonates on a bus in Tel Aviv

On September 19, 2002 a suicide bomber on a bus killed six people and wounded approximately 70 in the business centre of Tel Aviv.

TEL AVIV – Commuting to work by bus is hard enough without having to worry about a bomber aboard.

Ah the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Is there any more intractable problem in world political history? How many ‘solutions’ have been proposed? How many conferences have been held? How many ‘agreements’ have been signed?

And yet it continues like the Energizer Bunny. It is even ok to poke fun at this issue, the violence and deaths notwithstanding, as The Onion recently did (Night-Shift Janitor Leaves Behind Brilliant Solution To Israeli–Palestinian Conflict On U.N. Chalkboard).

Except that it is not really funny. There have been thousands of deaths on both sides and untold numbers of terrorism. Like today’s featured attack.

A suicide bomber on a bus killed six people and wounded approximately 70 in the business centre of Tel Aviv. The terrorist group Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.

I was walking out of my warehouse, when suddenly there was an explosion.. There was a great cloud of smoke over the bus. There was a woman on the bench with no face, and a man staggered past with terrible wounds. Then the police and ambulances rushed in.

Six more dead and dozens wounded. And that was two decades ago. And just like the Energizer Bunny the whole thing goes on and on and on…
